Gladys Elder Lawrence, 88, of Tifton passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002, at her residence. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Northside Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Dr. Fred Evers officiating. Mrs. Lawrence was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Lawrence's nephew served as pallbearers.
Born November 6, 1913, in Crisp County, Mrs. Lawrence was the daughter of the late William Joseph Elder and Bessie Jacobs Elder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence; and one sister, Grace Watson. Before retiring, she was a telephone operator at Southern Bell; and she was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Lawrence is survived by two son and one daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Lawrence and Terry Lawrence, all of Tifton; three sisters, Florence Lewis of Cordele and Ethel Hutchinson and Mary Will McGriff, both of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Joe and Cynthia Lawrence, Jason and Terri Lawrence, Mike and Brandy Lawrence, Bobby Lawrence and Dan Matthews; and five great-grandchildren, Heather Lawrence, Heidi Lawrence, Jared Matthews, Zach Matthews and Tucker Matthews.
