Obituary

Laina E. (Lahna) MacPhee, 88, of Dixfield Road, died at home Monday, July 17, 2006. Her husband, John A. MacPhee died in 1995. She leaves a son, John A. MacPhee, Jr. and his wife Grace of Narragansett, RI; a sister Alvina Kangas and her husband Toivo of Worcester; a brother Olavi Lahna of Westboro; 4 grandchildren, Erika Huntley and Arwen MacPhee of Wakefield, RI; James MacPhee and his wife Sui May of Coventry, RI; and Peter MacPhee of Newport, RI; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was born in Riimal, Sulva, Finland, daughter of Mikki and Adolfina (Wuarijarvi) Lahna and came to the United States on Sept. 7, 1926. She became a U.S. citizen on April 1, 1931. She graduated from Lincoln St. School in 1934 and Worcester Girls Trade School in 1937. She worked for Norton Co. as a cashier in the cafeteria and later as an office worker in data entry in the main office. She was a member of Greendale People’s Church, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed reading.
