WORCESTER____George J. Ratte, 68, of 47 Moore Ave., died Friday August 23 in his home. He leaves his wife of 42 years, Ann M. (Coghlin) Ratte, a son, Joseph E. Ratte of Roswell, Ga; two daughters, Christine R. McSherry and Kathleen A. Lavelle both of Worcester; two sisters, Janice A. Santo of Worcester and Suzanne E. Taubert of Peabody; seven grandchildren; Meaghan, Sean and Mikaela McSherry; Matthew and Luke Lavelle, all of Worcester and Anthony and Nicholas Ratte of Roswell, Ga., many nephews and nieces. A son, Michael G. Ratte of Worcester died in 1988. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph G. and Evelyn M. (Beauregard) Ratte.
Mr. Ratte was a group claims examiner 33 years for State Mutual, now Allmerica Financial and retired in 1991. After retiring he worked 10 years at WPI for Chartwells.
He attended Classical High School and graduated from Worcester Academy. He then graduated from Middlebury College in the class of 1956.
He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa.
He was a member of Christ the King Church and its Mens Club and was a lector and CYC advisor there for many years. He was a member of the Republican City Committee. Active in Mohegan Council Boy Scouts of America he was chairman of Pack 37 and Troop 37. He was a volunteer many years with the Jesse Burkett Little League where he was past president, a coach and field maintenance worker. He was a volunteer many years with the Michael G. Ratte Memorial Golf Tournament.
The funeral will be held Monday August 26 from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St.,with a Concelebrated Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday August 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael G. Ratte Charitable Foundation, P.O.
