John F. Honohan a 20 year resident of Byfield and formerly of Charlestown, died on Friday July 21, 2006 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. He was 80 years old.
John was born in Boston on November 7, 1925. He grew up in Charlestown, where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1943.He enlisted into The United States Coast Guard in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1955 with the rank of Boatswains Mate 2/cl. He was an instructor for electrical courses at Wentworth Institute in Boston for a short period of time. John became the Building Superintendant at the Park Square Building in Boston where he worked for over 25 years. He retired from there in 1991. For the past 15 years he was the purchasing agent for the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in Chelsea.
John is the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Herlihy) Honohan. He is the devoted father of Betsy Mullen and her late husband Stephen of Byfield, Pamela Roos and her husband Kenneth of Washington, D.C., Kevin Honohan of Houston, Texas, Maureen Parnell and her husband Robert of Guilford, Conn. He is the loving grandfather of Jason and Andrew Mullen, Jonathan, Stephanie, Jillianne and Maggie Roos, Meghan and Caitlan Honohan, Michaela and Spenser Parnell. He is the beloved brother of Eileen Cyr and James Honohan both of Fairhaven, Robert Honohan of North Dartmouth and the late Henry and Joseph Honohan.
John's Funeral will be held on Monday July 24, 2006 at 10 am. from The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for John will be held on Sunday July 23, 2006 from 3 to 7 pm. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
