Obituary

Charlie Marion Hawkins, 88, of Tifton passed away Saturday, January 5, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Hawkins was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Greer Echols, Jacob Echols, Charlie Walker, Randy Willis, Sonny Hawkins, Wayne Duckworth, Van Powers and Gary Greer served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Greer, Duane Weeks, Freddie Weeks, John Stephenson, Charles Walker, Johnny Johnson and Naman Willis.

Born October 21, 1913, in Worth County, Mr. Hawkins as the son of Willima M. Hawkins and Mattie Miller Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Susie Self Hawkins. Before retiring, he was a supervisor at J. P. Stevens; and he was a member of Harding Methodist Church in Tifton, where he served as a steward. He was a trustee for Harding School. He also worked on the farm and in security at the Georgia Agrirama.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucille Stephenson Hawkins; one daughter and son-in-law Mollie Jo and James Greer of Tifton; two brothers, Otis Hawkins of Cordele and Alfred Hawkins of Vienna; two sisters, Eula Mae Futch of High Springs, Florida and Emma Carol Chalker of Warner Robins; two grandsons and their wives, Frank and Joy Echols and Jim and Caren Greer, all of Tifton; and five great-grandchildren, Greer Echols, Jacob Echols , Ross Echols, Anna Greer and Tate Greer.
