Obituary

Clyde Jackson Henderson, 77, of Tifton passed away Sunday, September 8, 2002, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2002, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe, the Rev. Jimmy Odum and Mr. Henderson's grandson, the Rev. Ken Sirmans, officiating. Mr. Henderson was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Henderson's grandsons, Ben Poppell, Edison Watson, Vernon Smith, Gene, Michael Henderson, Ryan Henderson and Kent Henderson served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the member of the Forum Sunday School Class at Tifton's First Baptist Church.

Born September 23, 1924, in Tift County, Mr. Henderson was the son of the late John Jackson Henderson and Martha Walker Henderson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Dorothy McMillan Henderson; one brother, Cecil Henderson; one sister, Violet Coarsey; and a son-in-law, Kenneth R. Sirmans. Before retiring, he was a clerk for Seaboard Coastline Railroad; and he was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of World War II, where he served in the United States Navy.

Mr. Henderson is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Nancy Henderson of Jesup, Richard and Karen Henderson of Jacksonville, Florida and Ray and Libby Henderson of Tifton; one daughter, Elaine Sirmans of Aiken, South Carolina; one brother, Donald Henderson of Tifton; two sisters, Elwanda Keen of Tifton and Donnell Whitaker of Adel; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
