Lois E. Murphy
Retired Tewksbury School Teacher
Lois E. (Jacobson) Murphy, age 78, of Tewksbury, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024at the Lowell General Hospital.
She was the beloved wife of Eugene H. Murphy, Jr. with whom she would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on August 25, 2024.
Born in Quincy on June 12, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Edwin Jacobson and the late Anna Ebba Gertrude (Johnson) Jacobson.
Lois was raised in Quincy and Weymouth. She attended local schools and graduated from Weymouth High School.
Following high school, she went on to attend Keene State Teacher’s College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree.
Lois was employed as a teacher by the Tewksbury School Department and worked at the Heath Brook School for over 15 years.
Lois enjoyed a passion for cooking and took much pride in decorating her home on every holiday especially during the Christmas season which was always her favorite. In addition, Lois loved animals, snowshoeing, hunting, the beauty of nature, and was an avid fan of Boston sports teams especially her Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her three children, Heidi L. Green and her husband Daniel, Eric E. Murphy, and Scott E. Murphy and his wife Gayle: one grandchild: Soren K. Murphy. She was the sister of Carol Gershman and her husband Hal, and the late Joan Knapton. She leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Calling hours are Wednesday, June 12th, from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by a procession to Lowell Cemetery where a graveside service will be held at 11: 30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to MSPCA-Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or online at www.mspca.org
