Marion Irene (MacDowell) Collins, 85, of Brockton formerly of West Roxbury died on Thursday July 20, 2006 at the Braemoor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brockton surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Frederick L. Collins, Sr. to whom she was wed to for 45 years at the time of his death in 1988.
Born in Boston, MA on September 23, 1920 she was a dear daughter of the late William E. and Eleanor Irene (Gilmore) MacDowell.
She had attended schools in Medfield. A retired Nurses Aide, Marion had worked at the Star of David Nursing Home in West Roxbury for several years before retiring. While working at the nursing home she had attended their nursing school.
Marion was a member of the Roslindale Congregational Church. She was extremely active in political affairs in the City of Boston and had worked on many high level campaigns for numerous Boston politicians. An avid knitter her family will also remember in fondness her love of the Red Sox and her exceptional baking skills. She had lived in Brockton for the past 2 years and was formerly of West Roxbury for most of her life.
She is survived by her devoted children Lillian M. Starratt and her husband Paul of Brockton, Frederick L. Collins, Jr. and his wife Terri of Foxboro, Roy L. Collins and his wife Donna of Mansfield and the late Judy A. Groves. Her dear brother and sister; William MacDowell of Eugene, Oregon, Ginny Flaherty of Foxboro and the late Sally Hayes. Her cherished grandchildren Joseph J. Starratt of Brockton, Cheryl A. Willette of Raynham, Connie J. Wilder of Raynham, Ronny J. Burgess of Somerville, Michelle L. Quinn of Norton, Gary L. Collins of Pembroke, Ashley M. Collins of Mansfield and the late Eric P. Starratt. Also survived by her loving 10 great grandchildren, her 38 nieces and nephews as well as her son in law Kenneth Groves of Roslindale.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday July 24th at 10:00 A.M. at the Roslindale Congregational Church, 25 Cummings Highway, Roslindale. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday July 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
