Obituary

Michael F. Santry, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died peacefully at home on June 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. Michael was the loving husband of Susan M. (Anderson) Santry and was the son of the late Francis D. and Marion B. (Buckley) Santry. Michael would have celebrated his 70th birthday on June 17th.

Michael was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1972, and was an electrician by trade, employed by Sounder Systems Inc. of Pembroke until his retirement in 2020. Michael was always willing to help with home projects and his skill as an electrician made him very popular with his family and friends. Michael was never too busy to give a helping hand and did so with a genuine smile on his face.

Michael met the love of his life, Susan, while they were both employed at Walker-Clay Inc. The owners and employees at Walker-Clay were not just co-workers but became family. Susan and Michael were married in 1979 and would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 10th. Their marriage was truly two best friends who loved each other deeply and made a beautiful life for their family.

Nothing gave Michael more pleasure than the simple things in life. He enjoyed fishing from his Boston Whaler and sailing in his one-man sailboat. He was proud of his home vegetable garden and the beautiful rose bushes and hydrangeas in his yard in Brockton. One of his lifelong favorite places was the family cottage at Briarwood Beach in Wareham, MA. Michael and Susan spent most summer weekends there, relaxing in the backyard with his many flamingos and enjoying the company of the next door neighbors. Reading, cooking for his family, and scratching lottery tickets kept him happy and content.

In addition to his beloved wife Susan, Michael is survived by his son Matthew Santry of Brockton and his daughter Alison Last and her husband David of Arlington. Michael was most proud of the nickname “Pops”, given to him by his six-year-old grandson, Gabriel Lochlan Last. Pops and Gabe enjoyed many afternoons working in the garden or washing cars, playing at the beach at Briarwood, or racing cars around Gabe’s hot wheels track. Gabe was the light of his life and Michael’s pride and joy.

Michael was the treasured brother of Marion McEwan of Brockton, Patricia Florio and her companion Rick Carroll of Raynham, F. Timothy Santry and his wife Linda of West Bridgewater and brother-in-law of Paul and Kathleen Anderson of Plymouth. Michael is also survived by one aunt, Marilyn Buckley, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and too many cousins to count. Michael’s Buckley and Santry relatives will miss him dearly, as will his and Susan’s many lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel at the Covenant Congregational Church, 204 Center Street, North Easton on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the church on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

Donations in Michael’s name may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or dana-farber.org/gift.
