Thomas A. Cooney, 83 of Tewksbury, passed away on May 30, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Susan A. (Lamoureux) Cooney with whom he shared their 56th wedding anniversary on May 4.
He was born in Tewksbury on June 9, 1940 and was a son of the late Bert T. Cooney and the late Marguerite (Dubuque) Cooney. He was raised in Tewksbury where he attended the area schools graduating from Tewksbury Memorial High School.
After high school, Mr. Cooney enlisted with the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany, until his honorable discharge in 1965.
For many years, he worked as a welder at Tewksbury State Hospital until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time around his home, working on various projects, and especially loved being outdoors.
In addition to his wife, Susan of Tewksbury, he is survived by his two children, AnnMarie Nason of Wichita Falls, TX and Stacey Cooney and her spouse, Jonra Roberts of Holyoke, MA; two grandchildren, Shawn and Stevie Nason; two great grandsons, Jeremy and Leo Dinsmore; his sister, Martha Feran of Tewksbury; sister in law, June Cooney of Dighton, MA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late James F. Cooney, the late Peter D. Cooney.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 9:30-11 a.m. at Tewksbury Funeral Home, 1 Dewey Street, Tewksbury 978-851-2061. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Tewksbury Cemetery.
