Annie Mae Spicer Hobbs, 96, of Tifton passed away Sunday, November 24, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2002, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III officiating. Mrs. Hobbs was laid to rest at Ty Ty First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dwayne Hobbs, Darrell Hobbs, Frank Hobbs, Greg Cox, Ed Sauls, Frank Sauls Jr., Mark Francis, Jeffery Francis, Donnie Willis and Billy Spicer served as pallbearers.
Born February 20, 1906, in Irwin County, Mrs. Hobbs was the daughter of the late Alonza J. Spicer and Robbie Palmer Spicer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alton Hobbs, Sr.; and one daughter, Josephine Bailey. She was a homemaker; and she was a longtime member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and a friend to all who knew her.
Mrs. Hobbs is survived by two sons, Alton Hobbs, Jr. and James Larry Hobbs, both of Tifton; four daughters, Doris Lillian Brewer and Lillie Mae Sauls, both of Tifton, Ruby Nell Hobbs of Mabank, Texas and Norma Jean Francis of Baldwin, Florida; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.
