Doretha Skaggs Hobbs, 64, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at her residence. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Roger Tucker officiating. Mrs. Hobbs was laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.
J. H. White, Tom Beery, Kermit Browning, Neil Clements, Jimmy Mixon and Harold Beard served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Prince Chevrolet/Oldsmobile in Tifton; members of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church; and members of Hospice of Tift Area.
Born September 28, 1937, in Morgan County, Kentucky, Mrs. Hobbs was the daughter of Dessie Skaggs Montelonga of Tifton and the late Rudolph Skaggs. In addition to her father, Mrs. Hobbs was preceded in death by one son, Eddie Williams; and two brothers, Monty Skaggs and Ellard Skaggs. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church. She was also a member of the Blanche #8 Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Hobbs is survived by her husband, Jerry William Hobbs, Sr. of Tifton; one son, Jerry William Hobbs, Jr. of Tifton; one brother Dolphe Skaggs of Enigma; one sister, Rozzela Faust of Keyes, Oklahoma; one grandson, Jeremy William Hobbs of Tifton; and her step-father, Peter Montelonga of Tifton.
