Obituary

Dorothy E. A. Smith, 87

Dateline: Brockton, MA

Dorothy E. A. (Millar) Smith, age 87, of Brockton, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the beloved wife of Robert A. Smith, to whom she was happily wed for the past fifty-nine years.

Born in Boston, MA on December 29, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Millar and Dorothy (Gillespie) Millar. After the tragic passing of her mother in 1938, Dorothy was also lovingly raised by her grandparents, the late Thomas Millar and Sarah (Taylor) Millar.

Dorothy grew up in Quincy and was a 1954 graduate of Quincy High School. She and Robert moved to Brockton in 1967 and have lived there ever since.

Dorothy dedicated her life to her family and made sure their home was a warm and welcoming space for family and friends. She loved to entertain, cook and share recipes. When it came to entertaining, she was a meticulous host, always making sure everything was just right.

Dorothy had a green thumb and took pride with her husband in making her yard a beautiful space. She was always looking for someone to play a game of Scrabble with and she loved to win.

In her spare quiet time, she was an avid reader. Dorothy also loved to send greeting cards for every occasion. She loved to meet new people and was a true social butterfly. More than anything else, she loved to spoil her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted children, Steven Smith and his wife, Tamra of Stow, MA and Scott Smith and his wife Jo of Mansfield, MA. She was the cherished and proud grandmother of Thomas, Keira, Gwennyn, Deirdre and Harrison.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Dorothy’s Life on Wednesday, June 5th from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. with a short Prayer Service at 1:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
