Obituary

EAST LONGMEADOW - Richard J. Berthiaume, 61, of East Longmeadow was Called Safely Home on Sunday, May 26, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on January 29, 1963 a beloved son of the late Armand S. and Margaret C. (Niksa) Berthiaume. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from the High School of Commerce where he played for the Western Massachusetts Championship Football Team. He attended Holyoke Community College, and moved to East Longmeadow in 2007 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was a Reverse Mortgage Specialist for Cambridge Credit Counseling in Agawam. Rich was an avid golfer at Saint Anne Country Club in Feeding Hills and was a member of the Western Mass Bowling League. He will fondly be remembered for his "impressive" Karaoke performances. Besides his son, Christopher, one of his greatest accomplishments in his life was bowling a perfect 300 game. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and many friends. He leaves his loving and devoted son, Christopher M. Berthiaume and his partner, Ashley McCarthy, of East Longmeadow; his five dear siblings, Bonnie J. Thulin of Burlington, CT, Bruce K. Berthiaume and his wife, Sheila, of Springfield, Terri A. Ricard and her husband, Raoul, of Charlton, Roland F. Berthiaume and his wife, Tami, of East Longmeadow, and Maggie D. Crane and her husband, Tony, of Enfield, CT; his dear sister in law, Pauline Berthiaume of Agawam; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. He also leaves behind his beloved canine buddy, Myles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two dear brothers, Gary A. Berthiaume and Armand S. Berthiaume, Jr.; and his dear sister, Darlene E. Plante and her husband, Daniel. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, June 1, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, 413-737-1177, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael Church, 110 Maple Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. His burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129.
