Obituary

James W. “Jim” Hasson passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 at Alden Court Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fairhaven, MA at the age of 93 following a period of declining health. He was born to James A. and Helen Bessie (Archibald) Hasson, in Dighton, MA on March 20, 1931. When he was 20, Jim was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps on March 11, 1952 during the time of the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged on March 10, 1954, having achieved the rank of Corporal. While in the Marines, Jim married the love of his life, Jacqueline “Jackie” Viens in Swansea, MA on July 28, 1952. They ultimately settled in Westport, MA, where they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary just prior to her death in August 2022.

Jim held multiple jobs over his lifetime, working as a welder, dairy farmer, and hospital worker at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. After retiring, he worked as a greeter at Walmart. He loved hunting, fishing, and occasional trips to the casino to play the slots. He also enjoyed riding his bike, and participated in several Pan-Mass Challenge bike rides in the 1990s. Jim also loved to play High-Low-Jack with family members whenever the opportunity arose, and really enjoyed watching someone smudge, even if it wasn’t him.

Jim is predeceased by his wife Jackie; daughter Karen Charest; son James Hasson; brother Charles Hasson; and sisters Bessie Techaira, Lois Hasson, and Dianne Booth.

Jim is survived by his daughter Brenda Eldridge and her husband Keith of Fairhaven, MA; son-in-law Denis Charest of Wallingford, CT; daughter-in-law Cheryl Hasson of Mashpee, MA; and sisters Patsy (Hasson) Read of Ellington, CT, Winifred (Hasson) Tripp of Westport, MA, and Helen (Tripp) Schall of Barrington, RI; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
