Obituary

James Dunn, 87, of Omega, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Park Regency Assisted Living in Moultrie. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Leila Methodist Church in Colquitt County. Rev. Frank Morris, Rev. Hayward Tomblin and Rev. Walter Powell will officiate with burial to follow in Omega Cemetery. Grandsons, Jim Dunn, Howard Layton, Walt Dunn, Dusty Dunn, John Waddell and Rocky Jones will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tubby Hawkins, Ellis Whittington, Gibbs Patick, Sr., Dutch Hall, Buddy Brogdon, Chuck Jinright, Ray Hunt, Sr., and John Hall. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Dunn was born on December 10, 1918 in Upton County and was the son of Eddie May Dunn and Rosie Belle McCrary Dunn, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Opal Powell Dunn, who died on October 2, 1998; three brothers, Fred Dunn, Charles Dunn and Marvin Dunn; a sister, Louise Swinson; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Goodman Dunn; and a grandson, Brian Paul Jones. He was a retired farmer and a member of Leila Methodist Church in Colquitt County. He was a member of the 202 Military Police Company and was active in the North Africa Campaign in the first wave on D-Day and then later in Italy and Austria.

Mr. Dunn is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law: Larry James Dunn of Omega and Eddie Steven and Cindy Dunn of Omega; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret Davis of Omega and Mary and Ronnie Jones of Tifton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edd W. and Gwenette Dunn of Tifton and Roger and Evelyn Dunn of Omega; one sister, Florene Smith of Cartersville; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dunn of Omega and Irene Kelly of Tifton; eight grandchildren, Jim and Patty Dunn, Michelle and Howard Layton, Walt and Rachel Dunn, Dusty Dunn, Kayla Dunn, Marcie Horton, Susie and John Waddell and Rocky Jones; and twelve great grandchildren.
