Barbara M (Wade) Waible, age 83, of So. Easton, a professor of Nurse Education, died on April 26, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late John J Waible.
Born and raised in NJ, Barbara received a BS degree in Nursing from St Louis University and a Master’s degree in Nursing from Boston University. Barbara started teaching nursing at the age of 23. During her career, she was a faculty member at Laboure College, Boston College and Boston University. For many years, she was a professor of Nursing and chairperson of the Nurse Education Department at Massasoit Community College in Brockton. She received outstanding teaching awards, including the NISOD excellence award from the University of Texas.
Barbara was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National League for Nursing, the Ad Council, the St Louis University Alumni Association and Theta Phi Sorority. Barbara loved the challenge of teaching nursing students.
For many years, Barbara also worked part-time in the medical, surgical and emergency divisions of nursing at local and Boston hospitals. She was in several church choirs and community choral groups such as the Old Stoughton Musical Society, Potpourri and Ireland’s Own. She was a voracious reader with an appreciation for history and politics as well as sciences.
She was the loving mother of Karen Melendy, Mark Waible and Lisa Waible, mother-in-law to James Melendy and the grandmother to Ryan Melendy. She is also survived by her brother Tim Wade and his wife Charlotte, her sister-in-law Ruth Plunkett and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St (Rte 123) Brockton on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am, followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery.
