Obituary

Richard F. “Dick” Conley 87, of West Roxbury passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024. Born in 1936, he was the second youngest of twelve children. He was raised in a humble yet resilient household that instilled in him the values of hard work and perseverance from an early age.

Dick, a man of quiet humility and exceptional talent, was raised in Jamaica Plain. He graduated from Roslindale High School, where he left a lasting mark as a standout athlete, lettering in baseball, football, and track. His skills were recognized beyond his school, as he was selected to play in the Boston All Star League, showcasing his abilities in historic Fenway Park. Dick attended Northeastern University, where his athletic journey continued to shine brightly as he played varsity football and captained the baseball team.

Dick’s life was colored by an unwavering sense of thriftiness. Perhaps that is what led him to his long career as an Auditor for the State of Massachusetts. Despite his frugality, he was rich in the warmth of his heart and the depth of his character. Richard's resourcefulness and ability to find humor in every situation endeared him to all who knew him.

In 1957, Richard married the love of his life, Patricia (Burke), with whom he shared over 66 years of cherished memories and companionship. Together, they raised a beautiful family and weathered life's challenges with grace and resilience.

In addition to his wife Patricia, he leaves his 3 children. Richard Conley and his wife Norma, Cathleen McMahon and her husband Robert, and Susan McNeil and her husband Stephen, all of Walpole, MA. He was the cherished Grandfather of Robert McMahon, Lori McMahon and her fiancee Andrew Jaques, Kevin Conley and his wife Martine, Christopher Conley and his wife Katherine, Meghan McNeil and Morgan McNeil. Richard is also survived by his brother John Conley of Mansfield, MA. He was preceded in death by brothers Edward, Joseph, Leo, William, Robert and David, and sisters Mary, Elizabeth, Carol and Claire.

His quiet yet impactful presence, warm heart and his especially wry sense of humor will be remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends.

Visiting hours will be at the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury Saturday May 4th from 9:00am to 11:00am. Followed by a funeral mass at Holy Name Church at 11:30am.

Parking will be free, otherwise Dick would not be attending.
