Emma Vinson Dickens, 78, of Omega passed away Sunday, November 24, 2002, at Tift Health Care. Her funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Craig Nalls and the Rev. Steve Moon officiating. Mrs. Dickens was laid to rest at Omega Cemetery.
Mrs. Dickens' grandsons, Brad Grantham, Bart Grantham, Billy Hunke, Brian Hunke and D. J. Hunke, served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the TEL Ladies Sunday School Class at Omega Baptist Church.
Born September 24, 1924, in Miller County, Mrs. Dickens was the daughter of the late Jacob Alford Vinson and Ruth Grimes Vinson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She was a retired church employee, as well as a homemaker; and she was a member of Omega Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a past president of the Mell Baptist Association of W.M.W. She was dedicated to sewing, reading and serving others in her church community for many years. She had been a resident of Omega for over 50 years.
Mrs. Dickens is survived by her husband, Wilbur Thomas Dickens of Omega; five daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Carrel Grantham of Vienna, Virginia, Tommie and John Bartlett of McRae, Juanita and Jim Hunke of Springfield, Virginia, Kathryn and Don Yates of Key West, Florida; and Mary Ellen and Doug Hicks of Tifton; one sister, Laura Nalls of Ocala, Florida; and seven grandchildren, Brad Grantham, Bart Grantham, Beth Bartlett, Jo Ann Bartlett, Billy Hunke, Brian Hunke and D. J. Hunke.
