Obituary

CHICOPEE – Candace M. “Candy” (Downs) George, 79, a longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Malden on February 10, 1945, a beloved daughter of the late Walter H. Downs and Doris I. (Bracy) Borden. She was raised in Malden and at the age of 18, moved to Chicopee. She graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield, and lived in Chicopee for most of her life. She was employed as an OS&D Manager for the former Red Star Express in Chicopee. She enjoyed attending Mass in the Chapel at Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee. Candy loved joining her daughter for their daily stop at Dunkin Donuts for her favorite cup of coffee because she was always “Runnin’ on Dunkin’!” Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Robert D. George. They were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. She also leaves her loving and devoted daughter, Penelope “Penny” Trigilio of Chicopee; her two cherished grandchildren, Emily V. Ayers and her husband, Michael, and Robert C. “Bobby” Trigilio, all of Chicopee; her dear sister in law, Sister Helene Georges, SGM of Lexington, MA; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving son in law, Christopher-Paul M. Trigilio who was Called Home on August 30, 2023; her dear brother, Allen Patterson Jr.; and her dear sister, Penelope Kelley. Her funeral and burial will be held at a later date. There are no visiting hours. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
