Thomas Marvin Benson, 79, of Tifton passed away Sunday, December 8, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Steve Hand and the Rev. Gerald Purvis officiating. Mr. Benson was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Herbie Benson, Bobby Benson, Gary Benson, Darrell Benson, Rickie Benson, Dennis Arrington and Steve Arrington served as pallbearers.
Born March 2, 1923, in Worth County, Mr. Benson was the son of the late Winford F. Benson and Ester Frances Sumner Benson. He was also preceded in death by one son, Larry Charles Benson and one brother, Winford E. Benson. He was a retired farmer; and he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Tifton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II; and he had lived in Tifton his entire life.
Mr. Benson is survived by his wife, Louise Pittman Benson of Tifton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Hubert and Barbara Benson of Alapaha and Jerry Wayne and Jody Benson of Tifton; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles L. Benson, Edgar L. and Jennette Benson, Donald R. Benson and Harold C. and Sue Benson, all of Tifton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jannie Merle Underwood of Bremen, Louise and Jimmy Williams of Duluth and Mary Jo and Walter Arrington of Tifton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
