Obituary

Fredrick Wakefield Sutton, 59, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Tampa, Florida following a brief illness with cancer. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Tifton's First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Willie Beasley and the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. A eulogy was given by the Rev. Bill Harrell. Mrs. Sutton was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Darrell Willett, Skip Hill, Tommy Cottle, Sonny Hamilton, Ken Jankins, Donnie Weeks, Royce bishop and Bill Harrell served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Tifton Sertoma Club.

Born November 8, 1943, in Tifton, he was the son of the late Jewell Ivey Sutton and Henry Sutton and his step-mother, Ann Sutton of Tifton. He lived his entire life in Tifton; and he was a loyal son. He was a devoted, loved and supportive father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren whether it be fishing, watching racing, college football or just talking politics. He loved sharing his latest country music songs with them.

Mr. Sutton graduated from Tifton High School, attended Florida State University and graduated from Georgia Southwestern College. He, along with his father, owned Sutton Insurance Agency; and he was a member of Tifton's First United Methodist Church and the Tifton Sertoma Club. He also served in the Air National Guard.

Mr. Sutton loved his town and was a true Tiftonite. His friends were important to hi and he wanted to thank them all for their support. Their cards and phone calls, along with this faith in the Lord, helped him find peace during his illness.

In addition to his father and step-mother, Mr. Sutton is survived by his three boys and their families, Chris, his wife Wendi and their daughters, Elizabeth and Addison; Jason, his wife, Amanda and their two sons, Mitchell and Tucker; and his youngest son, Scott; and his adoring sister and her husband, June and Michael Annis and their children, Natalie, Caroline and Jeffrey Annis.
