Lake Lewis Sheppard, 83, of Tifton passed away Thursday, October 23, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Calvin Bobo officiating. Mrs. Sheppard was laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2003, at Guilford Memorial Park in High Point, North Carolina.
Mrs. Sheppard's grandsons and the men of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton served as pallbearers.
Born February 6, 1920, in High Point, North Carolina, Mrs. Sheppard was the daughter of the late John Henry Lewis and Hattie Lee Baldwin Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lieutenant Colonel James Yann Sheppard and several brothers and sisters. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton. Mrs. Sheppard retired to Tifton after rearing three children while on tours with Lieutenant Colonel Sheppard, who served in the United States Army, in Germany, Turkey, Virginia and North Carolina.
Mrs. Sheppard is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Craig and Sheila Sheppard of Tifton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth S. and Dr. Al Dietrich of Nashville, Tennessee and Judith Yann Sheppard of Brooklyn, New York; two grandsons, Dr. David Sheppard and his wife, Kimberly and Justin Sheppard; and one great-grandson, Donovan Sheppard.
