Mildred Ray Swain, 83, of Tifton passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Olin Hamlin and the Rev. Eddie Allen officiating. Mrs. Swain was laid to rest at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton.
Casey Swain, Daniel Simone, Ragan Lawson, James Walker, David Driggers and Robert Padgett served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Choir of Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton; the members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton; and the Deacons at Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton.
Born April 11, 1920, in Tift County, Mrs. Swain was the daughter of the late Riley H. Ray and Fannie Loper Ray. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Ray. Before retiring, she was a sales lady at Neel's Department Store in Tifton; and she was a member of Zion Hope Baptist Church in Tifton, where she served as clerk.
Mrs. Swain is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hendricks Charles Swain, Sr. of Tifton; one son, Hendricks Charles Swain, Jr. of Tifton; one sister, Edna Driggers of Tifton; two grandchildren and their spouses, Carrie and Daniel Simone and Casey and Cindy Swain; and three great-grandchildren, Timothy Swain, John H. Swain and Kelly Anne Swain.
