John E. Mitchell, 74, of Abbeville, Georgia, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, April 26, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, in Wilcox County, Georgia, with the Rev. David Clark and the Rev. Craig Barnette officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at The Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Mitchell was born March 22, 1950, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Charles & Ida Mae Clements Mitchell. He graduated from Wilcox County High School in 1968. He worked for Chaney Bush Irrigation for 42 years, retiring as a service manager. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Paula Mitchell of Abbeville; his children: James Mitchell & Jody of Abbeville and Christy Lovett & Dan of Abbeville; grandchildren: Levi & Daisy Hudson, Gracie & Dylan Wade, Walker Hudson and Zoey Mitchell; brothers and sisters: Charlie Mae Teal of Rochelle, Charles & Rita Mitchell of Valley Head, Alabama and Howard & Nancy Mitchell of Ocilla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Gibbs.
