Obituary

PARSONSFIELD- Mary L. Stacey, 94 of Parsonsfield, ME passed away on April 12, 2024, after a brief period of declining health.
She was born on October 20, 1929 in Sanford, ME to the late Helen (Lander) and William Lewis. She was the youngest of three girls.
Mary grew up in Alfred, ME where she graduated from high school at the age of 16. She attended Gorham State College, and it was then that she met her future husband, L. Arnold Stacey.
They were married on July 20, 1948 and made their home in Parsonsfield. She raised four children, Gary Jimmy, Cindy, and Julie. She taught them charity, empathy, service to others, and to live a simple life not only in words but by deed.
Mary loved education. After raising her children, she returned to college and obtained her bachelor’s in Special Education. She taught in the MSAD #55 school district for over 25 years.
After retirement, Mary pursued many loves. She joined a singing troupe and sang to nursing home residents songs of the war era. She loved water aerobics, knitting (making an afghan for each of her grandchildren), traveling, word puzzles, wall papering, gardening, and after her eyesight failed, she loved her books on tape. She enjoyed her Thursday outings with the ladies lunch group. But of all of her loves, she loved her family the best. You could always see her on the sidelines cheering on her grandchildren and great grandchildren at their sporting events. She was our biggest fan.
Mary was predeceased by her mother and father; two sisters, Shirley Allen and Roberta Goodwin; her husband L. Arnold Stacey and numerous relatives and friends.
She is survived by her children, Gary Stacey, Cynthia Stacey of Parsonsfield; James and wife Kathy of West Baldwin; Julie Hall and husband Dana of Center Ossipee, NH.
Mary will be sorely missed by her grandchildren, Jamie Stacey and his wife Amanda; Ryan Stacey; Lauren Martin and her husband Ryan; Jesse Hall and his wife Michelle; Nathan Stacey and his wife Amanda; Kati Glidden and her husband Andrew; and Zachary Hall and his fiancé Bridget. She was blessed with 14 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary passes the torch to her sister-in-law, Joan Wansor as the last of this Stacey generation.
We will celebrate her life at the Riverside Methodist Church, 5 School Street, Porter, ME on May 1, 2024 at 11:00AM. Burial will be at the Kezar Falls Burial Ground.
