Bertie L. "Billie" Webb Hood, 84, of Newnan passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III officiating. Mrs. Hood was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Bert Barry. Dan Barry, Junior Burch. Wesley Hargrave, Rex Shellhorse and W. Bruce Donaldson, III served as pallbearers.
Born October 6, 1919, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Hood was the daughter of the late Benjamin P. Webb and Rosa Lee Sinclair Webb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Julian Ledford Hood, Sr. Before retiring, she served as Clerk of the Tift County Magistrate Court alongside her husband, who was the Chief Magistrate of Tift County. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 21; and she was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hood helped establish and operate Hood's with the Goods in Tifton. She later established, owned and operated Hood's Telephone Answering Service.
Mrs. Hood is survived by one son, Julian Ledford Hood, Jr. of Atlanta; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Tom Sawyer of Fayetteville; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Hood, Dustin Sasser and Leslie M. Hood, all of Milledgeville and Matt Sawyer and Holly Sawyer of Newnan; and three great-grandchildren, Haley Sasser, Ashley Sasser and Brandon Sasser.
