Obituary

Helen Coleman Harris, 89, of Macon, formerly of Omega, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2003, at Omega United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cecil Felts and the Rev. Frank Morris officiating. Mrs. Harris was laid to rest at Omega Cemetery.

Mrs. Harris' grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.

Born October 20, 1914, in Dupont, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of the late Maude Tolbert Coleman and the Rev. Ferrell Lee Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, James W. Harris, Sr.; an infant daughter, Betty Jo Harris; one great-granddaughter, Heather Fordham; one sister, Mary Coleman Brown; and one brother, Glen Coleman. Before retiring, she was a ward clerk at Tift General Hospital; and she was a member of Omega United Methodist Church. She was a resident of Laurel Baye Healthcare in Macon. Prior to Laurel Baye, she resided at Magnolia Manor in Macon. She was a graduate of Andrew College; and she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Harris is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James W. "Sonny" Jr. and Carol Harris of Macon and the Rev. William "Bill" Ode and Joyce Harris of Abbeville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Helen Jane and Don Fitzgerald of Macon, Wynelle and Carl Swift of Lenox and Ferrell Harris of Valdosta; a brother-in-law, Jesse Brown of Tifton; one sister, Sybill Scruggs of Statesboro; a sister-in-law, Jean Colemand of Statesboro; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
