Obituary

Patricia A. Smith (Pat) 87 of Halifax, Massachusetts passed suddenly at home on April 12th, 2024.

Born in Lowell, MA in 1937, Pat was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Doherty) Countie. Pat, a Quincy High School graduate, worked at ElectroSwitch and Hazeltine as an electronics assembler until the birth of her first grandchild.

She was the wife of the late Edward F. Smith and leaves behind her three children, Brian E. Smith and his wife Kathleen of Hanson, Patricia LaChance and her husband Steve of Berwick, Maine and Suzanne Carlow and her husband Earl of Bourne. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren Ashley, Erin, Katie, Nick, Alex and her cherished great grandson Connor, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John Copley, Russel Copley, Warren Copley, E. Marie Dodds, Geraldine Panisetti, Joseph Countie, and Thomas Countie.

Pat and Ed were avid sailors, who never passed up an opportunity for an adventure. They especially enjoyed sailing around the British Virgin Islands with friends. After Ed’s passing, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Pat was a lover of new experiences and would never pass up an opportunity to go see the newest movie, latest play, craft fair, TJ Maxx runs or the center of a dance floor. She also had a love hate relationship with casinos. Crossword puzzles, bingo and card games were also a favorite, she especially loved playing cards with her grandchildren, even when they wouldn’t let her win. A lifetime music lover, she enjoyed everything from Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, Ed Sheeran to Pitbull, if it had a good beat, she was dancing to it.

Pat will be sorely missed as no room will be quite as bright without her in it, but there is comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her sailing partner.

Family and friends are invited to attend Pat’s visiting hours on Thursday, April 18th from 3:00-6:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM at the Blanchard funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the MSPCA as she was an avid animal lover.
