Mary Elizabeth Cooper Harris, 79, of Ty Ty passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at Tift Health Care. Her funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Freddie Stone officiating. Mrs. Harris was laid to rest at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton.
Mrs. Harris' grandsons, Clint Edge, Colby Edge, Brent Harris, Brian Harris, Conway Harris, Paul Harris, Hank Harris and Ray Merritt served as pallbearers.
Born May 19, 1924, in Worth County, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of the late Elijah Cooper and Lola Britt Cooper. She was also preceded in death by one son, C. Eugene Harris; three sisters; and one brother. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Sumner's Chapel in Worth County.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, C. C. Harris of Ty Ty; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Carl J. Harris of Sumner, Ernest L. and Susan Harris of Omega, Christopher "Buddy" Harris of Valdosta and Michael N. and Lisa Harris of Ty Ty; three daughters and one son-in-law, M. Sue Merritt of Tifton, Maxine and Gary Edge of McRae and Marie Harris of Dahlonega; one sister, Annie Ruth Settles of Albany; seventeen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
