James Rudolph Howell, 77, of Enigma passed away Sunday, June 22, 2003, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Dr. Charles Cravey and the Rev. Chris Ramsey officiating. Mr. Howell was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Wayne Howell, Mike Howell, Craig Howell, Tony Howell, Troy Hampton and Duke Snyder served as pallbearers.
Born December 31, 1925, in Alapaha, Mr. Howell was the son of the late Leonard Wilber Howell and Sarah Katherine Suggs Howell. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Talmadge Howell. He was a retired farmer and owner and operator of Howell's Grocery Market in Enigma for 28 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Tifton; and he was an avid golfer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II in the European Theater and the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of Springhill Country Club in Tifton.
Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Mary Creel Howell of Enigma; and one brother, J. C. Howell of Enigma.
