Worcester – John B. McManus Jr., 78, of 2 Columbus St. died on Saturday July 15, in St. Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.

His wife of 50 years Ruth S. (Holt) McManus died in 2002. Mr. McManus is survived by a son John B. “Jack” McManus III and his wife Jesslyn; four daughters Sharon Snow and her husband Jeffrey, Pamela Hultquist and her husband Russell, Deborah Fahlbeck and her husband Peter and Catherine Joseph all of Worcester; one brother Edward McManus of Worcester; two sisters Elizabeth Garafoli of Shrewsbury and Paula Palmer of Sterling; 11 grandchildren Kimberly, Katelyn, Courtney, Russell, Renee, Jeremy, Joshua, Jason, Eric, Cherilyn and Kerri; 3 great grandchildren Kayla, Gianna and Rachael; a cousin John “Sonny” Jankowski of Worcester with whom he lived and several nephews and nieces.

Mr. McManus was born in Worcester son of John and Anna (Maciejewski) McManus and is predeceased by two sisters Anna McKone and Alice Bernard. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II where he received the Victory Medal and the American Theater Medal.

Mr. McManus retired in 1989 as a design engineer from United Engineers in Springfield, MA. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and its Mens Club and enjoyed gourmet cooking and spending time on his computer.

Mr. McManus’ biggest asset was as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. With him family always came first and that was evident in the love he showed towards his family.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 18, from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a mass at 10 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are on Monday, July 17, from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association MA Office 330 Congress St. 5th Floor Boston, MA 02110.
