Obituary

CHICOPEE – Doris M. (Croteau) Gauthier, 78, of the McKinley House in Chicopee and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Holyoke on April 6, 1945, a beloved daughter of the late Leo T. and Yolande (Maillette) Croteau. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from the former Precious Blood High School and lived in Aldenville for most of her life. Doris was last employed by the DFF Corporation in Agawam and had previously worked at the former A.G. Spalding Company in Willimansett. During her leisure time, Doris was always ready to try her luck playing Keno. She enjoyed listening to music and was a devoted fan of Elvis. She liked anything purple and enjoyed watching “her shows” on television. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Most of all, she loved her family, her many friends and enjoyed being a homemaker to her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward C. Gauthier who was Called Home on September 19, 2016. They were married at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee on September 2, 1967 and were blessed with 49 years of happiness together. She leaves her two devoted sons, David A. Gauthier and his wife, Jennafer, of Feeding Hills, and Brian C. Gauthier and his wife, Kristen, of Agawam; her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Adam and Katherine Gauthier, and Daphne and Patrick Gauthier; her two dear brothers, Jean A. Croteau and his wife, Ruth, and Donald A. Croteau, all of Chicopee; her dear sister, Diane Samson and her husband, Paul, of Wilbraham; her dear brother-in-law, Ronald Gauthier and his wife, Sandra, of Chicopee; her dear sister-in-law, Claire Roy of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear sister-in-law, Renee Croteau and her dear brother-in-law, Roger Roy. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday morning, April 10, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
