Frances “Fran” M. Savard, 80, of Derry, NH, passed away Sunday March 24, 2024, at Windham Terrace in Windham, NH. She was born on March 21, 1944, in Arlington, MA, a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Romakitis) Maio and had been a resident of Derry for the past 54 years, after her early years living in Dorchester, MA.
Fran’s career in the travel industry started with TWA in Boston, MA, where she met her husband, Art. After moving to Derry, Fran became an active member of the community starting as a substitute teacher at South Range School and later as a paraprofessional at Pinkerton Academy. With Arthur, she continued with her travel passion by starting their own travel agency, Scott World Travel, in Derry. She is remembered by many Derry area families for whom she helped create many beautiful travel memories. She was an active member of the Derry Chamber of Commerce and Derry Rotary Club up until her retirement.
Fran received much joy from many trips to the southern coast of Maine where she could spend hours on end staring at the ocean or exploring many of the shops, much to her husband’s annoyance. She was an avid yard sale and holiday craft fair shopper, she adored her grandchildren, but possibly not more than her beloved cats and dog, Kenna. She enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen, but the family found great humor in many of her culinary catastrophes. Everyone knew Fran as the constant joker, even to the point where she would jokingly insist that she be buried one day in the clown costume that she used to bring great joy to the students at South Range. Thankfully, her family could not find this costume to oblige her request.
Fran is survived by her son, Scott Savard and his wife Stephanie; granddaughter, Mackenzie Savard; grandson, Mason Savard; two sisters, Elizabeth Marks, and Carol Maio; Fran was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Arthur H. Savard in 2016.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Peabody Funeral Home & Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am in the funeral home. The burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry, NH.
