Acushnet – Arthur M. Sylvia, 83, of Acushnet died at home after a brief illness on July 12, 2006. He was the husband of Lillian M. (Mello) Sylvia, they were married for 59 years.
Mr. Sylvia was born in New Bedford, son of the late Frank and Nazareth (Marques) Sylvia, and resided in the greater New Bedford area all of his life. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church. He was a U.S Army veteran of WWII. He was employed for 45 years as a foreman by the former Morse Cutting Tool in New Bedford until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, yard work, repairing cars and most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter: Nancy J. Rawcliffe and her husband Richard of Acushnet; a son: Arthur M. Sylvia, Jr. of Onset; a sister: Eleanor Bonas of S. Dartmouth; 2 brothers: Frank Sylvia and Edwin Sylvia both of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren: Pamela Rawcliffe of Acushnet, Peter Rawcliffe of Acushnet and Tiffany Sylvia of Onset; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Philomena Perry and Dolores Sylvia.

Funeral from the KIRBY FUNERAL HOME, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet at 9:00 A.M.
Interment in Acushnet Cemetery.
