New Bedford – Oscar H. Forand, 91, of Acushnet died July 12, 2006 after a brief illness at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Adela R. (Tomasik) Forand.
Mr. Forand was born in New Bedford, son of the late Arthur and Mathilda (DeGrand) Forand, and resided in Acushnet for most of his life. He was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WWII. He was employed as head of maintenance by the Acushnet School Department until his retirement. He was a past District Fire Chief in Acushnet, helped found Boy Scout Troop 37 and was a member of the American Legion Post 265. He enjoyed woodcarving and gardening.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter: Karen A. Belisle of Cheshire, MA; 2 sons: Oscar H. Forand, Jr. and Richard P. Forand both of Acushnet; a brother: Edward Forand of Hartford, CT; a sister: Annette Blaise of Acushnet; 2 grandchildren: Nicholas Forand of Silver Spring, MD and Tracy Forand of Acushnet; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Arthur Forand, Ernest Forand, Raymond Forand, Irene Roy, Rene Forand and Fr. Robert Dacien Forand.

Memorial service at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet.
Interment service at 11:15 A.M., Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
