Obituary

Helen C. (Pierce) Quigley, of Lowell, passed away unexpectedly due to complications arising from a routine procedure at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Richard W. Quigley, who passed away in 1995.

She was born on August 8, 1949, the daughter of the late Richard N. Pierce and Helen R. (Moriarty) Pierce. Helen attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Lowell High School. She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Parish and St. Margaret of Scotland Church.

Helen was known for her boundless energy and positive outlook on life and she was a nurturing soul, dedicating her early years to providing daycare for children in her home through CTI. Later, she worked as a custodian at Greenhalge Elementary School in Lowell for 30 years until her retirement in 2014.

Family meant everything to Helen, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Her home was always filled with laughter and love as she gathered her family for meals and shared countless joyful memories. Helen had a passion for travel, especially enjoying tropical destinations with her family and friends. Whether it was exploring Disney or soaking up the sun in Key West, she found pure happiness in being surrounded by those she loved most.

A pillar of strength and kindness, Helen touched the lives of all who knew her. Her selflessness and unwavering support were constants in the lives of her family, providing love and guidance through both happy and challenging times. She adored her two grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was shopping, enjoying lunch dates, or simply listening to their stories.

In her leisure time, Helen enjoyed trying her luck with bingo Sundays with her sister and sharing scratch tickets with friends and family around the table.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and laughter. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was dearly loved and will be forever remembered.

Helen is survived by her two children, Christine Panagopoulos and her husband, Paul of Lowell, and Keith Quigley of Portland, ME; her grandchildren, Lily and Nicholas Panagopoulos both of Lowell; her sister, Maureen Couture of Lowell; her sister in law, Carol Pierce of Pelham, NH; and several nieces and nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, the late James Pierce, Winona M. Allen,  Richard N. Pierce Jr., Rita E. Dumont, and Patricia R. Kasilowski.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.

On Thursday morning her funeral will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by her funeral libré at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 374 Stevens Street, Lowell. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
