Obituary

Evelyn Ellis Cheek, 89, of Enigma passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Elder Jeff Harris, Elder Raybon Lord and Elder Jamey Tucker officiating. Mrs. Cheek was laid to rest at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Tifton.

Emory Cheek, Ken Cheek, Everett Cheek, Foster Goff, Jimmy Ellis and Brent Saunders served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Eureka Primitive Baptist Church in Berrien County.

Born March 7, 1914, in Tift County, Mrs. Cheek was the daughter of the late Jimmie Ellis and Lettie Goff Ellis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Cheek, who passed away in 1976 and who she married 1933; and two sons, Emory Cheek, Sr., who passed away in 1983 and Lewis Cheek, who passed away in 1991. Before retiring, she was an interpreter at the Georgia Agrirama; and she was a member of Eureka Primitive Baptist Church in Berrien County.

Mrs. Cheek is survived by one son, William Edwin Cheek of Tifton; seven grandchildren, Emory Cheek, Jr. Emily Joy, Kenneth Lewis, Kimberly Carter, Suelene Saunders, Everett Cheek and Anita White; and five great-grandchildren, Calvin Emory Cheek, Amanda Cheek, Blake Cheek, Tyler Cheek and Suelena White.
