Earl Barrett, 65 of Ocilla passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Jimmie Hinson and the Rev. Elmer Golden, Jr. officiating. Mr. Barrett was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Kyle Scarborough, Jim Evers, Richard Varnadoe, Barron Jones, Bruce Barrett and Wesley Barrett served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Sidney Thomas, Larry Driggers, Justin McGriff, Danny Meadows, Jason Guess and Randall Simpson.
Born March 11, 1937, in Emanuel County, Mr. Barrett was the son of the late Elon Barrett and Inez Sammons Barrett. He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Chance Barrett, who passed away in 1999; and one brother, Grabel Barrett. Before retiring, he worked as a mechanic for the City of Tifton; and he was a member of Trinity Worship Center in Tifton.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Della Scarborough Barrett of Ocilla; two son and daughters-in-law, Marcus and Sandy Barrett of Lenox and Sean and Margaret McMillan of Ocilla; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shannon and Eddie Bowen of Tifton and Vickie Hood of Ocilla; four brothers, M. L. Barrett of Savannah, William Barrett of Eastman, Joe Barrett of Valdosta and Glenn Barrett of Adrian; two sisters, Ruby Cavanah of Swainsboro and June Jones of Ocilla; and twelve grandchildren.
