Darlene Elizabeth Pope Blakeney, 50, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina passed away Thursday, September 11, 2003, at her residence. A graveside funeral service was held for Mrs. Blakeney at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at the Rutland Family Cemetery in Tifton, where she was laid to rest. The Rev. Carroll Rutland officiated.
Born January 9, 1953, in Tifton, Mrs. Blakeney was the daughter of Christine Welch Pope of Lenox and the late Raymond E. Pope. She enjoyed traveling; and she was a professional nurse in a physician's office.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Blakeney is survived by her husband, John Blakeney of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; one daughter, Christie Thompson of Wake Forrest, North Carolina; two brothers, Kenneth Pope and Rusty Pope, both of Tifton; and two sisters, Carol Hurst of Chula and Betty Searcy of Jacksonville, Florida.
