Eugene "Gene" Earl Bowers, 73, of Tifton passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. George Parrish officiating. A graveside funeral service was held for Mr. Bowers at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, Alabama, where he was laid to rest.
Born November 12, 1929, in Hartford, Alabama, Mr. Bowers was the son of the late Ernest Clayton Bowers and Bonnie Dean Bowers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Elizabeth Hall Bowers, who passed away in 1987. He was the owner and operator of the Tiftarea Shopper; and he was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Mr. Bowers is survived by three sons, Rick Bowers and Terry Bowers, both of Tifton and Keith Bowers of Atlanta; one daughter, Beverly Hayes of Atlanta; four brothers, Robert Bowers and Gerald Bowers, both of Dothan, Alabama, Kenneth Bowers of Santa Maria, California and Larry bowers of Estill Springs, Tennessee; two sisters, Nell McGowan and Betty Reeves, both of Dothan, Alabama; and seven grandchildren.
