Betty Ann Gay Whittle, 80, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at her residence. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Mary 21, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Elder Raybon Lord officiating. Mrs. Whittle was laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Whittle's nephews served as pallbearers.
Born June 14, 1923, in Irwin County, Mrs. Whittle was the daughter of the late Joel Jackson Gay and Hattie Ann Farmer Gay. she was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Lawson Whittle; one grandson, Ryan Whittle; two brothers, Jim Gay and Charlie Gay; and one sister, Evelyn Haire. She was a homemaker and also retired from the textile industry after 30 years of service and with the Green Thumb at the Georgia Agrirama. She was a member of Tifton's Second Baptist Church.
Mrs. Whittle is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Margie Whittle, Van and Glenda Whittle, Ira and Deborah Whittle and Wayne and Carmen Whittle, all of Tifton; one sister, Mary Magdaline Lockerman of Tifton; and seven grandchildren and their spouses, Shawna and Blake Arrington, Stacey and Gerome Morgan, James and Brooke Whittle, Candace Whittle, Amanda Whittle, David Whittle and Amber Whittle.
