Obituary

Marcella Eldridge Wood, 65 of Tifton passed away Friday, October 22, 2004, at her residence after a long battle with inflammatory breast cancer. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2004, in the Sanctuary of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith III officiating. Mrs. Wood was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.


Billy Allen, Jerry Coley, Ronald Hand, James Martin, Rayburn Martin, Gene Seigler, Bobby Miles and Robert Hammond served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Adult II Sunday School Department and the members of the Merle Bowen Sunday School Class of Tifton's First Baptist Church.

Born March 1, 1939, in Irwin County, Mrs. Wood was the daughter of the late Jimmie Laudermilk Eldridge and the Rev. Reuben J. Eldridge. She was a devoted wife, mama, nana and homemaker; and an active member of Tifton's First Baptist Church as the Adult II Sunday School director.

Marcella will always be remembered for her sweet smile, faithful service to the Lor Jesus Christ and the incredible courage and strength she demonstrated until the Lord took her to her heavenly home.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband of 45 years, William L. Wood of Tifton; her children and their spouses, Lydia and Leslie Farman of Fayetteville, and William H. and Elaine W. Boney and Olivia and Will Boney, all of Branford, Florida; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Gerald Thompson of Fitzgerald and Monteen and Franklin Martin of Mystic; one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Kip Eldridge of Mystic; six nieces and their families; and three nephews and their families.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children's Homes, 9420 Blackshear Highway, Baxley, GA 31513; or to the Memorial fund of Tifton's First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
