Obituary

Bernadette Sebastien was born on June 15, 1944 in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. She was the eldest of 7 kids and many others from outside her immediate family. Growing up in Haiti, she was respected by all. Everyone knew her to be the loving and caring person she was. Whenever someone was in need, she would be there to help them. Bernadette was full of life and wonder. She loved to travel and experience different cultures and atmospheres. Around the 1980s, she visited the island of Aruba, and instantly fell in love with it. When talking to family members and friends, she would always talk about her wonderful experience there and how she would love to go back. When reminiscing about the beautiful island, you could see the light in her eyes, sparkle with joy. Despite her love for the island, she never had the chance to go back.

In 2005, Bernadette made her way to the United States, with her brother, sister-in-law and two nephews. She was sad to leave her home country, but elated to come to the US. She was ready to embark on this new journey in her life. The US was where the rest of her siblings lived and she had not seen them in over 19 years. Reunited with her siblings, she felt wholesome again.

Throughout the remainder of her life, she became ill. Living at a nursing home, in the city she loved and lived in, Malden; she was known by everyone as the lady who loved to sing. Music was her escapism, especially French music. Almost everyday you would hear her singing a song by either Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, or Dalida. Her voice was so spirited whenever she would sing-along to one of her favorite songs.

Bernadette was like a mother to us all. She was a beloved sister and an aunt. She will forever remain in our hearts as such. As a devoted Catholic, we know she is in heaven, watching over us.
