Claude Richard "C. R." Robbins, 83, of Tifton passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. John S. Gibbs Sr., the Rev. Eddie Hutcheson and the Rev. Danny Jones officiating. Mr. Robbins was laid to rest at Salem Memorial Gardens in Tifton.
R. Shane Lazenby, Bennie Branch, Richard H. Robbins Jr., Jason Guess, Bob Lazenby and Bobby Hobby served as casket bearers. Honorary attendees were Frank Buckner, Herman H. Buckner, Ricky Hobby, J. B. Stinchcomb, Glenn Green, Orris Hobby and Hubert Jernigan.
Born January 25, 1921, in Saltville, Virginia, Mr. Robbins was the son of the late James Eppie Robbins and Frances Snead Robbins. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Geneva Byrd Robbins, who passed away in 2000; five brothers; and three sisters. Before retiring, he was a building contractor; and he was a member of Tifton's Second Baptist Church. He had lived in Tift County for 60 years; and he served four years in the United States Army Air Corps.
Mr. Robbins is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard H. Sr. and Terrie Robbins of Ty Ty; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Bobby Hobby of Tifton and Claudia and Bob Lazenby of Gray; five grandchildren, Shay Lazenby, Dina Hobby Branch, R. Shane Lazenby, Leah L. Robbins and Richard H. Robbins, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Ben Branch, Annabelle Branch and Jackson Lazenby.
