Roy Lester Phelps, 79, of Tifton passed away Friday, October 15, 2004, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2004, at New River Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Tony Register officiating. Mr. Phelps was laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.
The deacons of New River Baptist Church in Tifton served as pallbearers.
Born April 16, 1925, in Tift County, Mr. Phelps was the son of the late Jack Phelps and Leona Walters Phelps. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Ruby Phelps; two brothers, John Phelps and Bryson Phelps; and one sister, Wilma Stanford. He was a retired contractor; and he was a member of New River Baptist Church in Tifton. He was also a veteran of the United States and served during World War II; and he had been a resident of Tifton for 79 years.
Mr. Phelps is survived by his wife, Margaret Allen Phelps of Tifton; one son, Paul E. Driskell; two daughters, Royal Phelps Griffin and April Phelps Driskell; two sisters, Eloise Sutton and Doris Gordon; and three grandchildren, Dusty Griffin, Amber Driskell and brittany Driskell.
