Emily Ivene McGee Peddy, 83, of Lynchburg, Virginia, former resident of Tifton passed away Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Tifton's First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Lillard officiating. Mrs. Peggy was laid to rest Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Bryan Cavenaugh, Whit Massey, Calloway Peddy, Tally Brim, Andy McGee, Dan Savage and Bob Synnor served as pallbearers.
Born July 12, 1919, in Columbus, Mrs. Peddy was the daughter of the late Theodore Jackson McGee and Alma Taliaferro McGee. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Calloway Hill Peddy, Sr. and one son, Calloway Hill Peddy, Jr. She graduated from Wesleyan College and was a former English teacher in the Terrell County and Tift County School Systems. She had a strong love of music and taught piano to many children in the Tifton area. She was a former and longtime member of Tifton's First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Azalea Garden club and also served on the Tift County Public Library Board. She was an active member of the community and took great pleasure in the arts.
Mrs. Peddy is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tommy Massy of Tifton; her grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan and Staci Cavenaugh, Whit Massey and Miki Byers and Calloway Hill Peddy, III, all of Tifton and Kappa Peddy Meadow and Anna Peddy Warren and their families, all of Lynchburg, Virginia; one brother, Dr. Jack McGee and his family of Columbus; and one sister, Elizabeth Savage Smith and her family of Lynchburg, Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
