Obituary

Carl E. Akerblom, 73, of Indiantown, Florida died on February 24th at home surrounded by his family. He fought his battle against cancer with grace and courage.

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on May 4th,1950 the son of Eric Akerblom and Helen (Inglis) Akerblom, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1969 and joined the AirForce where he served during the Vietnam War as a Jet Mechanic. After he left the service, he attended Massasoit Community College where he met the love of his life Jeanne Barbaro. Carl along with his father worked together building homes in Massachusetts before moving to Florida where he opened his own construction company in 1982 and incorporated in 1985 as Akerblom Contracting, Inc. where he worked with his father and good friend Stephen Dickinson (Dixie). When it came to construction, there wasn’t a job he couldn’t do. The more difficult it was, the more he thrived; but when he worked alongside his sons, Dewain and Ryan, those projects were the most rewarding.

In his spare time, he obtained his pilot's license. With all his accomplishments the compliment he loved hearing the most was what nice people his children turned out to be. He adored his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan. Family meant everything to him. He loved the large family gatherings with his extended family and friends, especially at the beach house and his ranch.

He was the husband of Jeanne (Barbaro) Akerblom together for 45 years and the brother of the late Donna Akerblom, the late Erica Akerblom, the late Tina Lafferty and Paula Lane of Orono, Maine. He leaves behind three sons, Carl M. Akerblom, Dewain Akerblom and Ryan Akerblom of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and daughter Chandra Akerblom of Plantation, Florida. He leaves behind his seven grandchildren, Nolan and Gavin Farrell, Dalton, Delia, Grant, Liam and Kailey Akerblom.
