Obituary

CORNISH- Bruce A. Smith, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on February 28, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Bruce was born on February 26, 1951, to Theon “Russell” Smith and Youbell (Court) Jackson in Portland, ME. Bruce grew up in Steep Falls, ME. After graduating from Bonny Eagle in 1969, Bruce went into the US Navy. After serving in the Navy, he attended SMVTI for carpentry, which was his career for many years. From 1975-1980, he owned Sebago Lake Store & Lunch which became known as Sebago Reflection. In 1988, Bruce began a career as a Code Enforcement Officer where he served many towns such as Cornish, Standish, Cape Elizabeth, & Scarborough, among others. He also worked part time as a Limo Driver until December 2023. Bruce enjoyed plowing every winter to keep busy.

Bruce was passionate about classic cars (whether it was buying/collecting them or attending local car shows), antiquing, reading his Stephen King books, traveling, and spending time with his family. Anyone who knew Bruce knew that he was the most loving husband, father, friend, and person a family could ask for.

He is survived by his wife Sheila (Hawkins) Smith of Cornish, ME; his mother Youbell (Court) Jackson of Windham, ME; his sisters: Dian Glantz & husband Jim of Windham, ME, Mary of Christiansburg, VA; sons: Christopher Smith & wife Lisa of Iuka, MS, Jeffrey Smith & wife Megan of W. Baldwin, ME; step daughter Dori Coolbroth of Cornish, ME; step sons: Aaron Hutton of Cornish, ME, Christopher Coolbroth & wife Dawn of Hiram, ME; step daughters: Lindsey Hawkins & Ed of Waterboro, ME; Lisa Santurri & husband Tommy of New York; step sons: Jason Hawkins & wife La of Scarborough, ME; John Hawkins & wife Vanessa of San Antonio, TX;

29 Grandchildren: Destiny, Jessica, Christopher Jr, Tate, Abel, Chaiann, Jaden, Divinity, Killian, Vincent, Marissa, Austin, Decklin, Damian, Olivia, Evan, Dayzha, Mariah, Madison, Miley, Tenley, Allie, Evelyn, Greyson, Gabriel, Anthony, Kaylee, Tommy, & Carter;

5 Great Grandchildren: Nevaeh, Wrenley, Calissa, Amelia, & River; Many nieces and nephews and extended family; and close friends Tom Newdick & Rolie Lavoie.



*********Instead of a graveside service on Saturday April 13th, a memorial service will be held on Saturday April 13th at 11 AM at the Deeper Well Church, 190 Northeast Road, Standish, with US Navy Honors**********
