Obituary

JOSEPH F. FLYNN, age 87, a Scituate resident for many years, died on Saturday, July 1st at his home. Mr. Flynn was born and raised in South Boston. He was a graduate of South Boston High School, a graduate of the Army Corps of Engineers and completed many college classes. He helped to build the Tobin Bridge in Boston and proudly his own home in Scituate. He served with the United States Army during World War II and attained the Reserve rank of Lieutenant Colonel. By occupation, Mr. Flynn was the Superintendant of the Boston Army Base, a position he held for many years.

In healthier times, he loved tennis and bowling. His recent favorite pastime was playing Scrabble with his friend, Paul Doucette.

He is survived by his wife Louisa (Stokinger) Flynn of Scituate and 4 daughters; Louise Hammill and her husband Jack of Jupiter, FL, Ann F. Schwarten of Scituate, Connie Fabrizio and her husband Tom of Lynn and Jeanette Rubin and her husband Ken of Delray Beach, FL. He was the grandfather of John Hammill, Jr. of New York, Lisa Hammill and Joseph Hammill both of Jupiter, FL, Stephanie Schwarten of Seattle, WA, Tyson Schwarten of San Francisco, CA, Jordan Ward of Novato, CA, Scott and Sylvia Fabrizio of Lynnfield, Cindi and Sean Sylvain of Lowell, Lauren Rubin and Brian Rubin both of Delray Beach, FL. Also survived by three great grandsons; Thomas, James and Andrew; a sister, Mary Cioffi and her husband Carl of Clinton, MA; a brother, Frank Flynn of Houghs Neck and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 15th at 2 PM at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, Scituate Harbor.

Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, P.O. Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185-9060 or to the Disabled American Veterans, 788 Liberty St., Braintree, MA 02184.

The interment is to be private.
